I see shades of green......

With all the baby making going on around here in the past 12 months my poor old vege patch has become more than a little neglected.

That is until I had the fantastic idea to try my hand at my first ever winter patch.

Under the advisement of the MOTH I planted the seeds straight into the ground instead of my usual practise of seed raising.

Now after a little water and a little mulch and compost love we are starting to see the first signs of green.

My beans and spinach are proving the hardiest so far but if I squint my eyes and tilt my head at the right angle I can see the other babies poking there heads up. YUM!!

I would love to hear your tips on maintaining a winter garden.

Treasue Keeper

The sad thing about motherhood is not being able to indulge my inner bookworm as much as I could in my previous life.  However watching my children develop a love for the written word more than makes up for it.

Wyatt has loved books since his eyes could first focus.  Now as he gets older I find books everywhere...... in his bed, by the swings, in his bike trailer even in the bathroom.

When I came across this fantastic tutorial over at the always inspiring Penny Carnival I new I had to give it a go..... (mind you I ended up mostly winging it as an unsettled teething baby left me very little time).  Isn't it fantastic!!  I mean what better place to keep your treasures than hanging right by your bed.

Brand New

Can you believe that my littlest love is now 5 months old??   The last 2 months have really flown by!! It must be all the baby gazing and brother bonding that has been going on.... hehe.

Now that Axel is gaining some autonomy I am finding that I have more time for to help my biggest love with his fave things, such as games and art!!

It has been such fun getting stuck back into our art supplies, colouring and drawing books.  However I had a massive attack of mama shame/guilt when I discovered the state of his pencil case (stocked up by Santa) everything was either broken, blunt or MIA!!  When did this happen?

ohhhhh my!!  A quick trip to the stationary shop today and we are now the proud owners of some very-special-pack them-up-into-the-top-cupboard-when-you-are-finished-textas-and-pencils-in-a-tin.  The new supplies mean that my boy can not stop drawing and colouring.  YAY.

Earlier this month I came across the most awesome game while cruising blogland (I am sorry I can't find the link drop me a comment if it is yours and I will give credit!!).  I whipped up my own version (in trusty old Microsoft word) of what we are now calling Alpha-Eggs and Wyatt loves it.....  The game involves matching the lower case letter to it's uppercase sibling.  The trick for the younger ones is in the different colours and different joins.

I would love to hear if you make your own version of this.

Showing Off......

Last weekend was our Annual Show.
This year it was very exciting for us as not only did we have the usual show fever but we added to the excitement by entering into some of the exhibits.

(0-5 year photography wall)

Image my surprise when we hit the pavilions on friday arvo and found that my handsome won 3 prizes for his photos....

(first prize)

(Second prize)

Mama-Pride hardly describes it...... I don't think there was a person who walked passed that I didn't grab and say "Check out Wyatt's pix...... he's only 2!! WOW".

(not a winner but definite mama's choice of all the entries)

In all the excitement it wasn't until Saturday that I realised how well my sister, my niece and I did as well.

(look closely and you might spy some jellywares and luvabby goodness)

The recognition of our worked has left me really inspired to surround my little family with more handmade.

My sister was out of town on Sunday so I was lucky enough to pick up her entries from the pavilion which meant that I scored a dozen (FIRST PRIZE WINNING) farm fresh eggs..... which I promptly turned into this for lunch......

YUM-O

We've Gone To the Birds....

Living on the outskirts of our rural town means that many of our feathered friends regularly pop by for a visit..... much to the delight of my nature loving boys......

Other than magpies, crows, sparrows, galahs and the willy wagtail ( ;) thanx for that one jode), this mama really struggles with her bird names....

(bird treasures - scraps of yarn to "feather there nests")

Hopefully no more....... I recently purchased the most amazing bird watching book.

Ever since this book showed up in the post our bird loving has exploded......

The feeder has been refilled, bird treasures have been hung and we were lucky enough to spot these beauties nesting on our neighbours rooftop...... after spying their long talons we were secretly happy they chose next door to nest...heehee!!

All this bird excitment has me planning....... bird houses, bird treat, more bushwalks...... ohhhh the possibilities!!
;)
